Pro-Choice Lobby Day Schedule

8:30-9:30                     Breakfast, training, and materials for Richmond participants

                                    Location: City Council Chambers, 2nd Floor of City Hall at 900 E. Broad St

                                    (Directly across the street from General Assembly Building)

                                   

9:00-9:30                    Buses arrive (training and materials will be provided on the bus)

Location: Motor coach loop at 10th and Broad St

 

9:00-11:45                  Checklist of activities to complete

Location: General Assembly Building at 9th and Broad St

** Attend Senate Education & Health Committee meeting (Senate Room B)

** Attend House Health, Welfare and Institutions Committee meeting (House Room D)

** Lobby your legislators (see list of lobbying appointments for time and location)

** Walk the halls and be visible on Lobby Day!

 

10:00-11:15                 Special events and meetings (open to everyone) 

Location: Conference Rooms 5 West & East (in the General Assembly Building)

                                                                                                                       

10:00-10:45                 Reproductive Justice Meeting

Location: Conference Room 5 West

At this meeting, attendees will hear from Kierra Johnson, Executive Director of Choice USA and a prominent leader in the national reproductive justice and progressive movements. Learn how reproductive rights intersect with issues of gender, race, and socioeconomic status and what you can do to support this growing movement.

 

10:45-11:15                 1 in 4: A Panel Discussion on the Need for Comprehensive Sex Education

                                    Location: Conference Room 5 East

At this meeting, attendees will hear from peer educators and one of Planned Parenthood's very own educators about the challenges of teaching comprehensive sexuality education in Virginia. Hear stories from the field and learn more about what you can do to get involved in providing Virginia's teens with quality, comprehensive sex education.

10:45-11:15                 Pro-Choice People of Faith Gathering

                                    Location: George Washington Statue, Capitol Square

This gathering is for all people of faith to learn about how clergy have played a key role in the family planning movement and recognize the day with a prayer. 

 

11:15-11:45                Lobby Day Rally

As legislators walk from the General Assembly Building to the Capitol, they will see and hear our demonstration for prevention and women's health.

Location: Along 9th Street directly across from the General Assembly Building

 

12:00-12:15                 Lobby Day Recognition in the Senate and House of Delegates

After the Senate and House of Delegates begin Session, Pro-Choice Lobby Day participants seated in the galleries will be recognized from the floor.

Location: Senate and House galleries in the Capitol

 

12:30-1:45                   Lunch and Lobby Day Program

                                    Join other Lobby Day participants for a deli buffet lunch and speakers.

Location: YWCA at 6 N 5th St

 

1:45-2:00                    Buses depart

Location: YWCA at 6 N 5th St

 

 

 

If you have questions throughout the day or need additional materials, there will be Lobby Day representatives stationed on the first floor of the General Assembly Building in front of the committee meeting rooms (Senate Room B and House Room D).
