reproductive rights report
Each year, Planned Parenthood publishes the Reproductive Rights Report to document Virginia legislator's votes on selected issues. You can use this report to get a general idea of how your legislators vote on reproductive rights. Please note that a legislator’s performance should not be judged solely on a few selected votes. Other factors to consider include public statements, performance in committees, legislation introduced, and constituent service.

2007 general assembly session and reproductive rights report
Seventeen anti-choice bills were introduced this legislative session, including an Abortion Ban (HB 2124). In a move to avoid considering such extreme measures, the Abortion Ban and a few other bills died because they were never taken up in the House committees where they were assigned. For the first time in several years, an anti-choice measure (HB 2797) was defeated by the House of Delegates. All seven anti-choice bills that did pass in the House were narrowly defeated by the Senate Education and Health Committee.
On the prevention side, the Birth Control Protection Act (HB 2221) was introduced to define and protect birth control. Although the bill garnered 21 co-sponsors and widespread grassroots support, the bill failed to report out of a House subcommittee and was defeated. Two HPVvaccine measures were overwhelmingly approved with bi-partisan support in both the House and Senate. The development of this new vaccine and programs for widespread inoculation against cervical cancer is a major victory for women’s health!
