volunteer
There are many different ways to get involved with pro-choice advocacy. Find an opportunity that interests you and fill out the form below to receive more information and get started!
Write a letter to the editor
Publishing a letter in your local newspaper is a great way to educate people about the importance of access to reproductive care, quality sexuality education, or the issue of your choice! We need good letter-writers to respond to inaccurate or biased reporting and proactively put our issues out there in papers across the Commonwealth. You’ll receive talking points, letter-writing tips and a Planned Parenthood letter-writing coach to help you!
Gather petition signatures for Planned Parenthood at a community outreach event
Get out into your community to educate people about our Planned Parenthood! Festivals, farmers markets, concerts and other community events are great opportunities to get petition signatures, hand out buttons, and educate people about Planned Parenthood and what it means to be pro-choice. Download these materials and let us know when and where you plan to gather signatures so we can answer any questions and recruit volunteers to help you!
Plan a movie night
We've got great movies that can help you start a conversation in your community. You can plan a movie night at a local library, place of worship, or your home. We've got lots of helpful tips on how to organize a movie night event.
Join a pro-choice phone tree
Our pro-choice phone trees are used to generate phone calls to legislators about bills and recruit volunteers for pro-choice activities. The phone trees are activated once/month, except during the General Assembly Session (Jan-Mar) when we need to generate a lot of phone calls to target legislators!
Host a house party
House parties are great for discussing sexual health, learning about threats to choice, raising money and recruiting more volunteers! You can choose from a wide range of discussion topics, including the Virginia General Assembly, how to talk to friends and family about being pro-choice or anything related to sexual health and policy. Planned Parenthood staff can help by supplying you with materials or attending your house party.
Organize a meeting with your legislator
We’ll help you organize a small group to meet with your Virginia Delegate or Senator to lobby her/him on our priorities. It is important to build relationships with your legislators and get to know them in order to influence their votes on reproductive health.
Join a Community Action Team
Action Teams coordinate local pro-choice events like community outreach, meetings with legislators, house parties, rallies and other opportunities for pro-choice people to get together and take action!
